A trip to Tatty Devine

When I was on my mammouth walk around London on Friday (you see can see what I got up to here), I stumbled into a beautiful place called Seven Dials and spotted Tatty Devine amongst the hub of independent shops in the area.

The first I ever heard of Tatty Devine and their infamous name necklaces, was when my sister was bought one a few years ago. I thought it was a cool idea and a more modern take on the classic ‘Carrie’ style necklace. A year or so after that, it hit the news that Claire’s Accessories had been creating copy-cat designs and selling them at a fraction of the price. I was shocked that a high street retailer would be so obvious about stealing designs from an independent jeweller and thinking they could get away with it. Some very poorly advised PR happened there! Since then Tatty Devine has fast become a cult classic in Britain with everyone lusting after their own name to wear. I thought it was about time that I re-acquaint myself with these perspex geniuses and popped into the shop near Covent Garden for a peek around!

Whilst I’m not overly keen on having my name hanging around my neck I found lots of other designs that I absolutely loved. My favourite necklace is the Pegasus Mini in Gold, closely followed by Ruby Slippers. These are more on the subtle side of their range, but if you’re feeling particularly flamboyant check out the Giant Lobster or Giant Dinosaur necklaces – you will certainly make a sizeable statement! That being said, I was actually surprised at how wearable their designs are. They have managed to make it that an enormous watermelon around your neck looks intricate not cheap – a definite skill.

The lovely ladies in the shop made me feel very welcome and allowed me to snap away while they were working, so here are some of their designs that I think will tickle your fancy…

There is such a varied amount of choice and I really love their silver ‘Fine’ range which is still typically Tatty but more wearable for all ages. A high street necklace looks a little boring now doesn’t it?!

Which is your favourite design and do you already own some Tatty pieces? Thank god I’m finally on the bandwagon…
