The Style: How to wear over the knee socks

Can you ever wear knee high socks without looking a) like a schoolgirl, b) like you’re in student fancy dress, c) well, a little bit (and I hate this word) slutty?

I have so many pairs hiding away in my drawers that I’ve acquired over the years but everytime I put them on it just doesn’t feel right. Why, when I’m not trying to be overtly sexy, do I suddenly feel like I’m off to dance on a bar?

When I bought this H&M woollen dress I decided this was the perfect outfit for these troublesome socks. The longer hem line at the back makes me feel less exposed but the front provides enough of a gap to show some skin above the sock. The 3/4 length arms is perfect because the only flesh on show is on your wrists (very unsexy!) and top of the thighs.

Tip! Try to stay away from anything sheer or super short and stick to ankle boots or flats to keep the overall look fairly casual.

So here we go, my practical, day to day styling for over the knee socks that is more ‘meeting friends for coffee’ than ‘night out with the girls’:

Woollen dress, H&M//Socks, Topshop//Boots, Barratts//Blazer, Zara

So what do you think? Have I finally cracked the casual knee high sock or is this still too much? Tell me your thoughts!

You nailed the look. Casual and flirty but in no way over the childish or too revealing. Stop hiding those socks in your drawer!
